Effects of Fire

Southern California wildlands have always been impacted by fires. We discuss those impacts in the Natural History section, on the Fire in the Foothills page. How plants have adapted to periodic fires is discussed on the Adaptations to Fire page. In addition, in the Fire Response paragraphs of the detailed plant descriptions, we describe plant-specific responses that fall into the categories of fire-followers, resprouters, and seeders.
