Gardening with Natives Information

We dedicated a special section to gardening with the plants in the San Gabriel foothills and canyons. This Gardening with Natives section provides general information and guidelines, including watering and maintenance, to help you get started using our local plants at your home.

For 120 plants, we also provide plant-specific information in the Garden paragraph. It includes some general ideas of how the plant might fit into a garden, as well as brief indicators of the plant’s requirements.

Small icons in the garden paragraph of the plant description highlight the requirements:

 Sun or shade needs.
 Water requirements.
 Soil and drainage requirements.
 Use under oaks.

The SEARCH function can help you identify plants that fit in your garden or plants that have similar soil and water requirements.
