Custom Search

A key tool in this Field Guide on CD is the Custom Search. If, for example, you saw an attractive white flower in June, you can say, in effect, "Show me the white flowering plants that bloom in June."

You can search on:

  • flowering color
  • flowering month
  • plant community (coastal sage scrub, chaparral, oak woodland, etc.)
  • plant type (annual, perennial, shrub, tree, etc.)
  • plant status (native, endemic, introduced, invasive)
  • any part of the plant's name or family (common or botanical)
  • or any combination of these characteristics

You can then look through a list of those plants with the characteristics that you selected to identify the plant that you saw.
